Before I dig in and give you ways to create more happiness and fulfillment in your life, I want you to have a full picture. A little about me, my name is Allison. Hello, I’m so glad you’re here! Mindfulness changed my life and I hope to give you the boost you need to shake off the shit and start being in flow and bravely create your dream life.
I’m sharing my personal go-to mindset routine and habits that not only helped me shift from the unhappy, exhausted, chained to a cubical version of me, to the self aware, genuinely high vibe me that is Allison 2.0.
The Beginning.
Ok so not the beginning from 31 years ago… Just the beginning of my personal growth journey.
3 years ago, I was the Art Manager for a marketing agency in Atlanta, GA. I was crazy productive, improving efficiencies, and crushing it up the corporate ladder. Until I wasn’t. I woke up one day and found more joy looking out the window at work, than I did doing my work.
It’s like the Lord just turned a page and I was no longer living in corporate ignorant bliss. For some – those of you who love corporate, this is NOT a judgement on your choices or career goals! But I had a rude awakening that I was meant for more and no matter what office I was in, that was not where God needed me to be.
I downloaded freebies, watched like 20 different webinars, signed up and paid for courses, and hired a my first business coach, then a mindset coach, and later a success coach. I wanted to travel the world and start my own biz, to leave corporate and never look back. Those 3 years took a lot of investing, and I’m sharing some of what I learned her, with you.
3 Years Later
Regardless of where I am: career, relationships, or geographic location… I’ve found a system that works to help me reframe negative thoughts, work through my emotions, raise my vibe and energy, and find true happiness in any situation.
So what is my secret routine?
I’ll be honest, it varies depending on what I’m going through. BUT the key takeaways that I ALWAYS go back to and try to focus on daily are as follows:
1. GRATITUDE // Write down 3 things you are grateful for in this moment. Write down 3 things you want that you’re grateful for as if it’s already happened.
Without gratitude you can never move forward. If you can’t think of anything to be grateful for, try the weather, the shirt on your back, and breath in your lungs.
2. MANTRAS // Find some mantras that resonate with you and write them down each day.
A mantra is simply a word, sound or phrase that one uses to focus on. If you need some new ideas I wrote down some of mine here.
I love to do this in the morning, and then again 2 min just before starting to work on anything. Pro Tip: keep a single journal just for mindset work.
3. FUTURE CASTING // 5-10 minutes
Sit down and visualize the future you want for yourself. Maybe you have a vision board on your wall, mood board on your phone, or just an idea of what you want your life to look like one day. In your mind’s eye visualize what that life looks like, how it feels to be there, who is there with you, where are you, down to what you are eating, drinking and wearing.
Now, write down those things in present tense. Do this as often as you like. Personally I do this every few days to tap into my higher self and focus on where I’m headed not where I am now.
4. REPLACE THE LIES WITH TRUTH
This one may take a little longer at first, but I’ve grown to a place where I can do this on the fly and mentally reframe without having to write things down.
To start, write down how you are feeling, negative thoughts you have, what fears are scaring you, or the stress that is keeping your stuck. Write it down, all of it.
Now, thank yourself for being honest and honor your feelings. Then, look back over your own thoughts and notice them as lies. Know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. So now it’s time to embrace that side.
For every lie you wrote down, replace it with a truth. If you can’t think of any, look to your bible, or if you are not super spiritual – head to pinterest or instagram for positive influences.
Here are some quick examples:
I look fat in these clothes // I am beautiful in my own skin
No one loves me // I am loved and fully supported at all moments in time
I’m broke and tired of never having money // Abundance surrounds me and money is on it’s way to me
5. BREATHWORK
This is prob one of my FAVORITE mindset activities! I learned about this from Samantha Skelly at an event. She showed me the power in breathing and I’ve since incorporated small doses of breathwork into my day to day life.
Check out Pause for a free guided intro to Breathwork.
For breathing on the go: Take a deep breath for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, exhale for 5 seconds. Do this for 1-2 minutes and feel the stress, anger or anxiety melt away. Do this as often as needed!
6. MEDITATION // Pause, breathe, and just slow the F down
To some, meditation is some weird monk lifestyle thing or for “crazy” hippies. But in reality, meditation is the act of connecting with yourself through clearing your mind.
Here are some of my favorite apps for getting started with meditation: Headspace, Calm, and BetterMe.
Another app I love for non guided meditation is Insight Timer.
7. READ
No, this is not high school, there is no summer reading list. But if you want to get in flow, you have to do the work. There is no flip you can switch and magically be happy.
You can spend your time doing one of two things: consuming content that helps you grow or inputting meaningless media. When you read or watch materials that help you open your mind to new ideas and opportunities you are going to naturally feel happier than if you sit on the couch (or the bed) and binge tv for hours upon hours – or days.
Trust me, this is coming from a pro binge watcher, who would lose days of sleep just to finish a series that I was addicted to. There is no “reward” when watching tv, but there is a reward in better yourself and finding that natural alignment of who you are and what you are meant to be doing.
PS I still binge watch, but within healthy parameters these days!
If you aren’t a reader, start with 15 min before bed a few days a week. Or check out Audible for a wide selection of audio books.
