Travel. To some, vacations and family time come to mind. To others, flying, experiencing new cultures and adventures flash through the minds’ eye.
To me travel is a lifestyle that I’m only just starting to live. Before I share how to get started, let me give you a little backstory, and about me if you will. You see, it all started when I took a family vacation to the Caribbean. We booked an excursion to Jost Van Dyke in the B.V.I.s and I sat on the white sand looking out at the crystal clear blue water and knew I was made to live this life, to be an island girl/beach bum that is!
I went back home to Georgia, and settled backing to my 9-5 and kept longing for another beach trip.
The more I missed the Caribbean the more I wanted to see other beaches: Italy, Greece, Australia, the cliffs in Ireland. The next thing I knewI was finally ready for more, and could no longer tolerate coasting through a routine that wasn’t at all who I am or want to be.
Coaching for me, has been a learning opportunity, a blessing, and a daily inspiration that we are all put on this earth for a reason. He didn’t create us to live mediocre lives. We were made for greatness. So, I decided to create coaching program around what I was good at, graphic design, marketing and branding. But, through my own personal journey I fell in love with self care, self love, and personal growth. Knowing that any entrepreneurial endeavor is 80% mindset and 20% business, I shifted gears to support the ideal clients I wanted to work with.
I didn’t want to create a business that was just a source of income to allow me to travel. I wanted to build a life I would love, a life that made an impact, a life that changed lives. Those are my big one days goals. But in order to get there you have to start small. So you may be thinking, hurry up give me the secret sauce…
Here it goes: Imagine your life 10 and 20 years from now. What do you want it to look like? Then fit everything you do into that vision.
People seeking to break free from the 9-5 lifestyle often do things here and there to bring in extra money. But most of the time it’s just a bandaid for the real solution, the end game.
If you want to end up on a beach 10 years from now, ask yourself what kind of empire you want to build to get you there? Is it a multitude of and this and that, and something else over here, and 10 different avenues that aren’t connected? Or do you see yourself traveling, making an impact and everything you do is inline with that vision for your life?
If you want to travel, consider what it would take for you to be able to start traveling. And do one small thing each day that will help you get there. Sounds simple right? But, simple isn’t always easy or bite sized. Instead of focusing on the end goal, find the joy in the action, the people, and the experiences that will get you to that goal.
God, or the universe, will grant you the desires of your heart, because He put them there. You are destined for the things you want in the life, and there is one way to get there: Start helping people anyway you can, support others, offer value, give 110%, build community and stay true to yourself and your peeps.
I’m blown away every day by the impact a simple decision can make. If you authentically share your message, you will naturally and organically build a following, a tribe that is loyal and is somewhat on a mission to do what you do, or want to do.
Not the answer you wanted? Try this:
Create 2 lists: A list of the things your good at and what people come to you for advice on, a second list of the activities, passions or hobbies you enjoy doing. Cross check the two list and see what you can combine. Of those what resonates with you the most?
From there, identify who your ideal clients will be (you know, the ones you only dream of working with!) This is where marketing and execution comes in. But, before you go happy go lucky on all the things, make sure and check your intensions on why you are doing this… go back to that 10 year vision and let everything you do be in service of that goal.
But it all boils down to making a decision, and not just any decision, but one that is intentional. This could be researching your destination and making a deposit, or finally publicly announcing your goals, it might be putting a business plan or marketing strategy in place, or it could be time to get a mentor to help you find clarity and navigate through the gray areas.
Your life is 100% in your control. If you want to travel, stop talking about it and start taking aligned action. Travel can be a vacation with the family, it can be a one way ticket somewhere, or maybe it’s moving somewhere you’ve always wanted to live. Life is too short to plan and dream about doing things “one day.”
Nothing is going to perfect, how boring would life be if it was, but start somewhere, and just keep going, you’ll be traveling before you know it!
